Darien offers several neighborhoods. Tokeneke has mansions on tree-lined, winding roads in quiet neighborhoods. Noroton and Noroton Heights. The Noroton section of Darien is defined by two peninsulas that claw their way into Long Island Sound, their curved appendages protecting enough coves and inlets to make the area a haven for beachgoers and sailors. The shorter of the peninsulas, Noroton Neck, is divided into shore communities like Noroton Bay and Pratt Island. The average home price is $1,765,000.

Although Darien is considered a bedroom community you will find bagel shops, boutiques, bistros, and specialty stores. Darien does have several historic businesses such as Ring's End Lumber and the family-owned Nielsen's Florist & Garden Shop.

Darien residents enjoy 2 beaches and 12 parks. Darien offers excellent schools that have gained national attention. There are five Elementary Schools: Hindley School, Holmes School, Ox Ridge School, Royle School, and Tokeneke School. A $27 million addition was completed in 2000 to the town's middle school, Middlesex Middle School, and a new $73 million campus for Darien High School was completed in the fall of 2005. Pear Tree Point School, originally named Plumfield School, is a private school on Long Neck educating students in pre-kindergarten through Grade 5.
